Position Overview
Reporting to the Branch Manager, the CDL A Driver supports the local branch by transporting non‑hazardous and hazardous waste materials via multiple vehicle types including roll‑offs, tankers, box vans, and air movers. The Driver also performs non‑emergency and emergency response activities involving confined space entry such as manholes, tank cleaning, oil spill cleanup, drum handling, decontamination, sweeping and shoveling, high‑pressure washing, and various remedial activities.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Ensure health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner.
- Adhere to and document all transportation compliance requirements, including inspection reports, mileage logs, and trip reports.
- Operate light and heavy equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, and pressure washers.
- Load and unload vehicles as required.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all safety procedures.
- Perform labor‑intensive activities in all weather conditions.
- Work in atmospheres with low clearances, confined spaces, and at heights.
- Attend mandatory training to earn certifications and obtain information specific to responsibilities.
- Submit all proper paperwork.
- Work “on‑call” based on a rotating schedule for emergency response and may require out‑of‑town travel.
- Comply with ongoing random drug testing and physicals as required by the company and clients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Operation of multiple vehicle types such as roll‑offs, tankers, box vans, and air movers.
- Safety‑oriented mindset with determination to follow all procedures and policies.
- Hazmat transportation experience, including placarding and manifests.
- Must be able to get to/from the job site.
- Demonstrates accountability and punctuality.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- At least two years of CDL A driving experience.
- CDL A license.
- No manual or airbrake restrictions.
- 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- Must pass a pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and alcohol testing.
- Must pass a pre‑employment background screening.
- Must complete OSHA HAZWOPER 40‑hour and other mandatory trainings.
- Ability to work a rotating shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods of time, overnight, and on an on‑call basis.
- Able to read, write, and understand the English language, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must withstand exposure to dust, fumes, exhaust, and highly pressurized fluids.
- Must perform physical labor including lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy objects.
- Must lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must wear PPE and work under adverse conditions (heat & cold).
