Position: CASEWORK MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST 3

Overview

DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting for a Casework Management Specialist 3 in Carson City, Fallon, and Winnemucca Child Welfare Office. Under supervision, incumbents determine social service needs of clients, develop appropriate solutions and case plans, and provide ongoing case management services. Incumbents provide child welfare services to children and families to develop and implement a case plan that presents intervention strategies to meet the child's needs;

ensures children have their medical, mental health and educational needs met; provides strength-based family centered case management services to families that promote the safety, well-being and permanency of children, including home visits, monitoring services, report preparation and record keeping. Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and implement case plans and safety plans by interviewing clients, family members, collaterals, court stakeholders and care providers to support the safety, permanency, and well-being of assigned clientele.
  • Continuously assess individuals/clients using agency approved assessment tools to evaluate, identify and determine social service needs and advise clients of their service related rights and responsibilities.
  • Identify goals and develop strategies based on established objectives and available resources; review client history, report observations and recommend changes; remediate deficits and provide intervention strategies.
  • Assist care providers in learning techniques to enhance the care provider/client relationship; evaluate the effectiveness of the plan and revise as needed; utilize evidence based practices to bring about change in behavior to meet client goals.
  • Review plan with client and family/care provider and revise as needed; monitor client and family progress; coordinate resources and services; make referrals to other service providers and community resources.
  • Assist clients in obtaining financial assistance as appropriate; coordinate services with outside agency service providers; consult with clinicians, social workers, medical personnel, vendors, contractors, school districts, courts, public agencies, community organizations, law enforcement, and professionals in the legal system to exchange information.
  • Serve as motivator and negotiator to arrange and resolve service delivery issues; use crisis intervention to manage challenging client behaviors.
  • Conduct assessments, have contact with children, vulnerable and/or older adults, and their families; perform home visits using motivational interviewing; monitor follow-up services specified in the case and/or safety plan.
  • Prepare reports for court on family function recommendations; monitor providers to ensure services are provided; review billing forms for accuracy; assist clients with applying for programs and ongoing eligibility requirements.
  • Adhere to regulatory and agency standards for documentation; document case activities and progress in case records; prepare reports and correspondence as required to courts and other agencies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and meetings; develop program awareness and partnerships within local communities; participate in training to enhance knowledge and abilities related to job performance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned; under general supervision, perform the full range of duties as described above.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, special education, human growth and development, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, gerontology, or closely related field, and two years of professional experience providing casework services; OR one year of experience as a Casework Management Specialist II or Social Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience above the Bachelor's degree level as described above.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and implement case plans and safety plans; interview clients and stakeholders to support safety, permanency, and well-being; assess and identify service needs; provide intervention strategies and monitor progress.

  • Knowledge: applicable federal and state laws and regulations and agency policies; motivational interviewing; clients’ rights and confidentiality; court procedures.
  • Skill: maintaining accurate case management records and data entry into the assigned database.
  • Ability: take decisive action to protect vulnerable clients; apply advanced case work methods; stay calm under pressure; conduct home visits; supervise visits; testify in court; prepare reports; monitor compliance with court orders.
