Sonic Drive-In Part-Time Facilities Maintenance Technician (1099 Contractor)

$25-30/hr

We are seeking a reliable and versatile part‑time maintenance technician to join our team as an independent contractor (1099). This individual will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and troubleshooting of building systems and equipment on an as‑needed basis. The ideal candidate is flexible, highly skilled, and comfortable working independently across a variety of maintenance areas.

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on building systems and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems to maintain optimal performance and comfort.
• Maintain and service restaurant equipment, including fryers, Stoelting Ice Cream Machines, Electrofreeze Slush Machines and refrigeration units.
• Handle plumbing repairs, including pipes, drains, faucets, toilets, and water lines.
• Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
• Perform general building maintenance including electrical and preventative maintenance tasks.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and urgent calls.
• Maintain clear records of repairs, services, and parts used.
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards, codes, and company guidelines.

• Hands‑on experience with HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of commercial kitchen and restaurant equipment repair.
• Strong plumbing and refrigeration troubleshooting abilities.
• Basic electrical and preventative maintenance experience.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Effective problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience, ideally in commercial or restaurant environments.
• Must provide own tools and reliable transportation.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
• Flexible availability, including occasional evenings or weekends.
• Must be eligible to work as a 1099 independent contractor (responsible for own taxes and insurance).
