Summary

The primary purpose of the position is to perform electrician duties for healthcare facilities within VASNHCS. The incumbent will be required to assist other trades persons and/or any other work as assigned by the supervisor to meet the mission of Facility Management Service (FMS).

EXPERIENCE:

A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge - skills - and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on‑line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part‑time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

• Major duties include but are not limited to:
  Incumbent works in a healthcare environment and may be required to don personal protective equipment
• Installs - modifies - repairs - maintains - troubleshoots - tests and loads new and existing electrical lines - circuits - systems and associated fixtures - controls and all equipment as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
• Incumbent shall read system diagrams and schematics – interpret basic electronic terms and symbols – and apply a variety of electrical formulas – tables – charts – and color codes in order to mount – ground – and install wiring and equipment for electrical/electronic systems
• Incumbent works from building plans – blueprints – wiring diagrams – engineering drawings – electrical maintenance – and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing – placement – type – size – gauge – balance – load continuity and safe operation of electrical lines – circuits – systems – equipment – and controls
• Incumbent shall conduct research and write work orders for approval by supervisor and assist in maintaining stock levels for timely repairs
• He/she is required to keep all stock and shop areas neat – clean – and orderly
• Incumbent receives work through the electronic work order system

  The incumbent often works from ladders – scaffolding and hydraulic work platforms
• He/she often works in portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped – dirty – and hard to‑reach locations
• The work involves prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping – bending – kneeling – climbing – and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions
• Incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools – equipment – ladders – scaffolding – parts – and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
• Occasionally – the incumbent will be required to lift and carry over 40 pounds
