Summary
This position serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic within the Facilities Management Service at the VA Medical Center in Reno - Nevada. The role involves installing, troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance, and repairing all HVAC&R equipment and controls.
QualificationsApplicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience is not required, but evidence of training or experience that demonstrates sufficient knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties is necessary. Applicants will be evaluated against the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. The screening process includes a screen‑out element followed by rating against job elements such as equipment assembly, installation, repair, interpretation of instructions and specifications, materials, technical practices, troubleshooting, and use of tools.
Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) that builds relevant competencies will be credited. Applicants should provide details of duties, responsibilities, and hours for each position. Duties- Repair, troubleshoot, maintain, and install air conditioning equipment in hospital and ancillary buildings.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain refrigerators, freezers, and ice machines used for patient food, drugs, laboratory specimens, and blood products.
- Operate and repair all aspects of the environmental control system, including adding and removing system points, building graphics, modifying and troubleshooting programming, repairing and replacing sensors, actuators, control devices, and LAN terminal equipment.
- Diagnose and repair a wide variety of equipment and systems providing heating, cooling, humidification, dehumidification, air cleaning, filtering, and circulation.
- Work schedule:
Full‑time, Monday–Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. - Physical requirements include bending, reaching, holding awkward positions, work from ladders and high places, climbing, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs or more, both alone and with others.
