SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision of the Equipment Repair Shop Supervisor, the Electronic - Electro Mechanical Technician performs electronic and electro-mechanical diagnostic and repair procedures in field and in shop. Repair of minor electronic/electrical equipment and related work as needed.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs minor repairs and routine periodic preventive maintenance on a variety of educational support equipment such as laminators, VCR/DVD players, phones, pottery class equipment, home economic appliances, and mechanical binder-punch tools. In addition, infield duties require LCD projector lamp replacement, Closed Circuit Television maintenance (Analog and
IP), Coaxial, CAT 5 and CAT 6 cable installations and troubleshooting, installing connectors and tracing cable runs with tone signals. Must be able to assist other Electronic technicians when needed and have the ability to perform most job functions with little supervision.
Orders and maintains inventory of related parts, supplies and materials associated with the major educational support equipment; maintains a library of technical and repair manuals and will maintain operational reports to catalogue a history of services performed on various equipment.
Some incumbents in the Electronic Technician classification may be required to assist or perform work associated with other trades.
May be required to physically perform AHERA Class III disturbances to asbestos containing building materials as directed in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform OSHA lead remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform mold remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/
Experience:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and
skills would be:
1. Four (4) years of current experience in the repair of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and low voltage cable installations.
OR
2. Equivalent to completion of an apprenticeship program from an approved trade or technical school in basic electrical and electronic repair.
Knowledge of:
Electrical and electronic theory and basic troubleshooting techniques including mechanical devices, electric motors, analog and logic circuits, understanding schematic diagrams and blue prints, and experience with Coaxial and CAT 5-CAT 6 cables and associated connectors. Must have the ability to document all work performed including cable installations and bench repair work.
Skill at:
Working independently and as a team; performing general preventive maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment as well as electro-mechanical devices. Must be capable of understanding technical manuals and specification sheets; observing safety practices; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; performing some heavy manual labor; preparing reports pertaining to work performed; handling a variety of work orders and completing work on schedule;
and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in course of work.
Licenses/Certificates:
Possession of a valid Nevada State Operator's license with a driving record acceptable to the district.
Certification: AHERA 16 hour asbestos training. Asbestos certification will be required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.
Certification: OSHA eight (8) hour Lead Action Training. Certification will be required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.
Special Requirements: Applicants will be required to pass physical and full mask or half mask respirator fit test( if able) under this requirement, the employee may not be able to have certain facial hair, like beard, long sideburns or mustache that may interfere with the passing of the fit test. Employee will be required to do attachment and penetration of asbestos and lead containing must have the ability to use ladders to access roof equipment.
May be called upon on off-hours for school emergencies, such as burglaries, vandalism, fires, snow removal, equipment failures, flooding, etc.
Physical Demands: This work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequently climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 60 pounds, pushing balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching, crawling in restricted areas. . Must have the ability to enter all areas of a facility including attics and crawl spaces. To some extent, the frequency or intensity of physical exertion must also be considered.
