Salt Lake City, Utah (Smith’s Food & Drug)

• Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department
• Monitor all established quality assurance standards
• Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return
• Encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service following the Customer 1st strategy
• Display a positive attitude and remain current with present, future, seasonal and special advertisements
• Check product quality to ensure freshness, review “sell‑by” dates, and take appropriate action
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise; provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate manager of items needing repair
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents, report all safety risks/issues and illegal activity (robbery, theft or fraud)
• Serve as a model for diversity and inclusion by speaking second language (if applicable) and fostering trust among associates
• Recommend grocery items and specials to customers to ensure they receive what they need

• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
• Effective communication skills

• Any retail experience
• Second language proficiency (speaking, reading, and/or writing) to promote trust and respect among associates
• Knowledge of products sold within the department and ability to respond to customer questions and make suggestions
• Experience in recommending items and informing customers of specials
• Strong inventory management skills, including labeling, stocking, and reporting discrepancies
• Proficiency in restoring and maintaining safe temperatures and temperature logging
• Experience in reporting safety risks, incidents, and illegal activity
• Capacity to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
