GENERAL FUNCTION

The Apprentice Optician creates exceptional value for customers by delivering the Lens Crafters Experience. The role ensures customers are delighted by performing the key steps of our selling model.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conveys a commitment to providing unsurpassed Customer Service by performing the following Sales and Service Process steps:
    • Greeting the Customer
    • Explaining the Process transparently
    • Merchandise Selection
    • Fitting - Accu Fit
    • Solve visual problems or challenges for customers
    • Tendering
    • Dispensing
  • Serves as a center of excellence, focusing on Right the First Time and modeling our CEE service and selling model.
  • Assists the customer in selecting frames and lenses that best suit vision, lifestyle and budget, suggesting improvements and recommending solutions.
  • Anticipates problems before they occur and develops long‑term solutions.
  • Shows patience and courtesy, tracks down answers to unfamiliar questions.
  • Educates the customer on Lens Crafters’ guarantees and services including the Eyewear Protection Plan, care tips, complimentary adjustments and follow‑up services.
  • Handles tasks such as taking and recording measurements, adjusting or fitting eyewear carefully and accurately.
  • Ensures finished eyewear meets optical standards and customer requirements.
  • Strives to achieve ‘Exceptional Results’ on Lens Crafters' annual CEI/Functional Skills metrics.
  • Leads initiatives to achieve personal and store results and serves as a role model and technical resource.
  • Operates the Point of Sale terminal inputting customer and prescription information accurately.
  • Collects proper payment following company security procedures and retains correct change.
  • Explains the ‘One Hour’ processing and expected delivery times to customers.
  • Shows customers where to pick up glasses when returned to the store.
  • Takes pride in the store’s appearance and ensures visual displays follow company planograms.
  • Maintains a safe working environment, reporting potential safety hazards.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices, including wearing personal protective equipment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Part of a sanctioned Apprentice Program
  • Strong customer service skills: communicator, listener, team builder
  • Knowledge of current optical theory and merchandise
  • Knowledge of current store merchandise
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Awareness of current fashion trends
  • Sales and service skills
  • Familiarity with POS, computers and calculators
  • Embrace new technology and change
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Actively studying for Lens Crafters Quality, Fitting and Adjusting Program
  • Optical dispensing experience
  • Previous customer service and retail experience

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements. You may also be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan, which complements a first‑class total rewards package.
