The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a temporary Research Scientist position with a one-year appointment, anticipated to start February 1, 2026.

• Developing next generation wildfire spread models with emphasis on soil and ecohydrological impacts; coordinating research with partners and faculty in the realm of wildfire-landscape modeling and technology.
• Liaising with the CliMA team at Caltech for development of a new wildfire module; generation of reports and scientific publications.
• Engagement with students and postdocs and provision of technical support within the UNR Wildfire Hub and beyond.
• Making presentations at scientific conferences and contributing to the broader Wildfire Hub activities; development of proposals and providing administrative support to Wildfire Hub administrators.

• PhD in Engineering, Physics, Ecology and Forestry, Earth Science, Computational Science, or related fields with post-doctoral research experience (or equivalent).
• Research experience in wildfire engineering, fire science, landscape modeling, or related topics.
• Experience in working with big data.
• Excellent English-language communication skills (oral and written).
• Demonstrated ability to perform research, publish results in peer-reviewed literature, and contribute to grant applications.
