We are seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to lead the accounting operations for a high volume dealership in the Lake Tahoe / Reno, NV market. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, progressive, family-owned dealership group that has been around for many years with clean books. The successful candidate is an experienced dealership Controller with a proven track record of leading dealership accounting offices with clean books, clear processes, and a well-trained staff.
The Controller hired will be supported by upper management to structure their accounting office as they see best fit for long-term success and will have autonomy to hire and fire as needed.
It’s important that the Comptroller hired leads by example and is a good mentor and trainer to their accounting team. Moreover, it is important that this person communicates and works well with store level leadership to achieve mutual goals. The Controller will report directly to the Corporate Controller (located offsite) while working closely with the store-level General Manager on day-to-day operations.
Experience on CDK is a plus, but not mandatory for the role. Serious relocation candidates will be considered for this role.
- Oversee all dealership accounting operations
- Manage and take full ownership of the accounting office and department
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and manufacturer reports
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer, corporate, and regulatory requirements
- Partner closely with store leadership to support profitability and operational goals
- Train, develop, and mentor the accounting team
- Build structure, process, and accountability within the office
- Implement best practices for long-term stability and growth
- Prepare financial reports and present them to management
- Review and approve financial transactions
- Provide financial guidance to management and assist in decision-making
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations
- Proven experience as an Automotive Controller in a dealership environment
- Able to close out the month end financials and submit the financial statement to the OEM
- Comfortable operating independently while reporting to corporate leadership
- Strong working knowledge of dealership DMS systems
- Ability to collaborate effectively with store-level management
- Ability to lead under pressure while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
- Part of a well-established, family-owned dealer group with a progressive mindset
