summary description
works under the supervision of the housekeeping utility crew coordinator. Assists with oversight of the utility crew and light duty crew. Assists with employee evaluation, counseling, discipline, coaching, and training. May act as site facility coordinator or lead custodian. May work early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, or night shifts.
essential duties and responsibilities
supports specialized custodial functions, including:
- emergency clean-ups (water, sewer, petroleum, hazardous materials).
- viral/bacterial outbreak deep cleaning.
- process cleaning for health training and retraining.
- gym flooring analysis, screening, finishing, and training.
- inventory management and ordering supplies.
- carpet repairs, daily and deep cleaning, minor maintenance, grounds work, and painting
- supervises, trains, orients, and evaluates utility crew ii trainers and new custodial trainees.
- inspect trainee work to compliance with standards.
- maintains operational and training records.
- manages inventory of specialized custodial supplies and equipment. Repairs and maintains equipment used for gyms and emergency response.
- assists with emergency timekeeping for outbreak and hazardous response events.
- supports district sites with teacher moves, surplus projects, and furniture assembly.
- performs minor maintenance (lights, painting, tagging broken furniture).
- performs outdoor tasks (snow removal, mowing, litter pickup).
- coordinates and participates in deep cleaning and building restoration.
- oversees gym floor scheduling, cost analysis, screening, and finish application.
- assists with capital projects, remodels, and painting.
- strips, seals, and waxes floors using power equipment.
- performs osha class iii asbestos, lead, and mold disturbance tasks in compliance with regulations.
- must be respirator-fit-tested and wear ppe for emergency response.
- acts as site facility coordinator or lead custodian when needed.
- participates in water mitigation, moisture readings, and restoration.
- manages chemical inventories and sds updates.
- may respond to off-hour emergencies (fires, vandalism, flooding, equipment failures).
any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:
education:
- high school diploma is desirable but not required.
- one (1) year of responsible experience in custodial work.
- one year of experience in an educational environment.
- one year of supervisory experience in general operations.
knowledge of:
- supervisory principles and personnel management.
- district applications (facilities one, business plus, microsoft office, excel).
- building systems and repairs.
- custodial supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- emergency response and clean-up procedures.
- safety practices and basic first aid.
- supervising multiple crews and projects.
- training, coordinating, and evaluating staff.
- maintaining personnel and administrative records.
- operating and scheduling equipment.
- problem-solving and process improvement.
- report analysis and development.
- using math for statistics, tracking, and kpis (excel/access).
- communicating effectively in writing and verbally.
- working independently and under deadlines.
- operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and moving heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- performing strenuous physical work and ladder tasks.
- working in adverse conditions (heat, cold, dust, fumes).
- responding to emergency events.
- long periods of standing and walking on uneven surfaces.
- frequent bending, stooping, stretching, and reaching.
- lifting moderately heavy items.
- requires above-average physical ability and dexterity.
