Summary Description

Under general supervision, performs basic to moderately difficult oral interpreting services between English and a designated language in a variety of settings. The role supports families and students across multiple programs, including parent‑teacher conferences, school events, and Individual Education Plan meetings.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide interpreting services for school administration, parents, and other individuals as assigned.
  • Translate orally all documents presented by parents, school personnel, and other individuals.
  • Assist parents with questionnaires for assessment purposes and explain school jargon, acronyms, and phrases.
  • Perform simultaneous interpretation using equipment when required for complex assignments.
  • Support student discipline issues, parent conferences, and Individual Education Plan meetings.
  • Communicate policy and procedure updates to parents and students and assist administration in problem‑solving.
Employment Standards
  • Education/

    Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years of progressively experience as interpreter, or
    • Bachelor's degree in targeted language or related field AND two (2) years of progressively experience as interpreter.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, equipment, computers, and effective verbal and written communication in English.
  • Ability to translate spoken material from English into a designated second language.
Licenses & Certificates

Incumbents assigned to perform formal oral interpretation duties must pass the WCSD oral assessment. Level II candidates must also possess an interpreter certificate from a certifiable higher education institution. Level III incumbents must demonstrate proficiency in simultaneous or consecutive interpretation.

Special Considerations

On‑call position with flexible schedule, including evening hours.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $25 per hour (Social Security Deduction). Salaries are subject to adjustment each fiscal year.

Additional Job Information
