Sierra Staffing Group is seeking a Data Center Cable Technician for one of the best employers in the Reno, NV Market. Qualified candidates will have 2+ years of cabling experience in a Data Center or similar environment.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Data Center Cable Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems within a mission-critical data center environment. This individual will play a key role in ensuring network infrastructure is installed to industry standards, properly documented, and fully operational to support ongoing business operations.

The ideal candidate has experience working in active data centers, understands structured cabling best practices, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, terminate, label, and test copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode)
  • Perform rack and stack of servers, switches, patch panels, and related hardware
  • Route and dress cables in overhead tray systems and under raised flooring
  • Perform cable terminations including RJ45, LC, SC, MPO/MTP connectors
  • Test and certify copper and fiber cabling using Fluke and OTDR equipment
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues related to physical layer infrastructure
  • Read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, and network diagrams
  • Maintain accurate documentation of cable runs, labeling, and port assignments
  • Ensure compliance with data center safety standards and structured cabling best practices
  • Decommission and remove legacy cabling as needed
  • Support data center migrations, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas within active data center environments
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in structured cabling or data center environments
  • Experience with copper and fiber optic installation and termination
  • Ability to test and certify cabling systems
  • Familiarity with TIA/EIA standards and data center best practices
  • Experience working in live production environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or under raised floors
  • Strong attention to detail and labeling accuracy
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • BICSI certification (Installer 1, Installer 2, or Technician)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with large-scale data center builds or colocation facilities
  • Experience with cable management systems and high-density environments
  • Basic understanding of networking hardware and infrastructure
