UHS is currently recruiting for its Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center (Reno, NV). The center opened in April 2022 and is the first full‑service hospital built in the region in nearly a century. Sierra Medical Center offers cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopedics, Family Birth Center and Level II NICU services.
ResponsibilitiesThe COO provides day‑to‑day operations of the hospital, implements the CEO’s and corporation’s strategy, and manages hospital departments efficiently and effectively to maximize the quality of services and the hospital’s profitability.
- Direct quality operations to maximize return on investment and community reputation; increase revenues and income before inter‑company allocations, maintain or reduce the effective bad‑debt rate, achieve the desired margin percentage, and implement operating‑cost controls in staffing, supplies, purchased services, etc.
- Develop and provide quality programs and services to the community; manage and implement programs to ensure all employees are committed to quality and service.
- Manage and develop employees; through appropriate management practices create a hospital climate that motivates employees to reach highest performance, establish direction, coach, provide feedback, and build commitment.

Qualifications- Five years of hospital experience, with a minimum of two to three years as a senior‑level manager.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred in business, health administration or other closely related field. - Organized and able to manage multiple diverse departments.
- Detail oriented, focused on nuances of multiple hospital operations, and able to communicate with employees and vendors.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and communicate with individuals and groups.
- Knowledge of the financial implications of decisions, including budgeting and forecasting.
