Position PurposeThe Clinical Pharmacist II is responsible for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care across Renown Health acute care services. This includes preparation, distribution, and safe handling of medications, clinical monitoring, and collaboration with healthcare professionals within established guidelines and statutory requirements. Additionally, the position attends multidisciplinary meetings, serves as a formal preceptor, and provides departmental staff development opportunities.
Nature and ScopeThe Clinical Pharmacist II plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care within Renown Health. The role involves both distributive and clinical functions, requiring a balanced approach to medication preparation, dispensing, and therapeutic oversight.
The pharmacist ensures medications are handled safely, accurately, and cost-effectively, provides expert guidance on drug administration, therapy monitoring, and formulary management, and interprets and verifies medication orders for appropriateness. Potential drug‑related issues are identified and resolved, and the pharmacist maintains compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and hospital policy.
Accurate patient medication profiles and documentation are maintained, controlled substance records are overseen, and patient charges are processed in a timely manner. Clinically, the pharmacist monitors drug therapy—including parenteral nutrition, pharmacokinetics, renal dosing, and IV‑to‑enteral conversions—and collaborates with providers and nursing staff to recommend appropriate therapies and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
Leadership responsibilities include supervising pharmacy technicians and support staff, training interns and students, contributing to departmental quality initiatives, and providing hands‑on training to pharmacist trainees regarding daily shift responsibilities and best practices.
As a key member of the healthcare team, the Clinical Pharmacist serves as a resource to management, supports inventory control, participates in incident reporting, and actively engages in continuous improvement efforts. The position directly contributes to patient care and is integral to ensuring safe and effective medication use throughout the health system.
The Clinical Pharmacist II is also responsible for providing development opportunities for pharmacy staff, serving as a formally appointed preceptor to a pharmacy resident or student learning experience, and representing the pharmacy in multidisciplinary meetings.
Flexibility, reliability, and initiative are expected, along with the ability to work across multiple clinical areas and shifts in a 24/7 operational environment. Overtime may be required. The incumbent is expected to regularly attend staff, workgroup, and educational meetings. Other duties may be performed as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications- Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Completion of a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.
D.) degree from an ACPE accredited pharmacy program or 10 years of experience in acute care pharmacy is required. Completion of a Pharmacy Residency or equivalent training program in clinical pharmacy is preferred. - Experience: Applicants are required to have 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience or completion of a Pharmacy Residency Program.
