Lab Assistant Per Diem Union - Mixed - SMRMC Clinical Lab

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Perform computer entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
  • Demonstrate good telephone etiquette and greet patients and visitors politely.
  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • Show adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of phlebotomy and collection equipment for all patient age groups.
  • Process specimens for pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank.
  • Process specimens for reference laboratory.
  • Stock and order routine supplies.
  • Keep storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas clean.
  • Load or place specimens on laboratory instruments per established policy and procedures.
  • With proper documented training, perform instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, assist in quality control procedures, and prepare primary cultures, stain slides, and subculture from liquid media.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the department manager/director, such as monitoring, mail, fax, answering phones, and interdepartmental deliveries.
  • Assist in pathology training and evaluation.
  • Serve as a laboratory runner.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year of clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.
  • State certified as CPT I or CPT II if required for the state in which the laboratory operates.
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certificate at hire, with continuous renewal preferred.
