Community Health Alliance is looking for a WIC Eligibility Worker I. Join our talented team of WIC that focus on serving the community and helping those in need by creating healthy outcomes for patients of every income.

We operate six convenient locations throughout Reno and Sparks, providing comprehensive, top-quality medical services, dental and pediatric care, behavioral health, low-cost pharmacies, nourishing food pantries, and more.

Job Summary: The WIC Eligibility Worker I is responsible for determining client eligibility for the WIC program, conducting nutritional risk assessments, delivering nutrition education, and coordinating resource referrals. This role ensures adherence to all state and federal program requirements while maintaining a high standard of customer service, cultural competency, and teamwork.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic nutrition principles and public health nutrition.
  • Infection control, hygiene, and safety protocols.
  • Office administration procedures and electronic health records.
  • Community health and social services systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data entry, and email communication.
  • Effective use of anthropometric tools (scale, stadiometer, recumbent board).
  • Clear bilingual communication (English/Spanish) in oral and written formats.
  • Delivering group and individual health education with empathy and clarity.
  • Multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Engage respectfully and positively with a multicultural, low-income population.
  • Travel to alternative WIC sites and work flexible, non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Lift and carry up to 20 pounds regularly with or without accommodation.



Minimum Qualifications and

Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in health or social services preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health, medical, or social service settings strongly preferred.
  • Must complete the following certifications within designated timelines after hire:
    • Within 1 year:
      Office Laboratory Assistant (OLA) license and Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) course.
    • Within 2 years:
      Competent Professional Authority (CPA) certification through Nevada State WIC.

Work Environment and

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a standard clinic office setting with client-facing duties.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting or standing and interaction with young children.
  • Regular use of computers and office/medical equipment.
  • Occasional local travel for outreach or inter-site staffing.
  • Requires lifting materials or small equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be provided for physical or medical limitations.
