Position Purpose
Performs Financial Specialist functions through the accurate gathering of demographic, sponsorship or guardian data, insurance, financial and statistical information from a variety of sources, including patients, families, physicians, and government agencies. The Financial Assistance Specialist ensures patients without a payer source are screened and assisted with applications for government, local, or charity programs, as well as the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) for Renown.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Nature and Scope
This position conducts comprehensive financial screenings, in person or by phone, to identify payer sources and process applications timely. The process aims to be expeditious, compassionate, and patient-friendly, with coordination across departments to ensure seamless admission and discharge. The employee maintains documentation and ensures timely submission of applications to the FAP Committee, always exhibiting professionalism aligned with Renown Health’s Values.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Working-level knowledge of English;
Bachelor's degree preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) candidates preferred. Ability to perform intermediate math skills and understand medical terminology.
Experience:
Two years in medical insurance benefits, eligibility verification, Medicaid screening, charity applications, claims processing, or medical financial counseling preferred. Experience with hospital claims follow-up or customer service in medical finance highly preferred.
License(s):

Certification(s):
Nevada Division of Insurance Exchange Enrollment Facilitator Certification required within 12 months of hire.
Computer
Skills:
Proficiency with MS Excel and Word; experience with EPIC system preferred. Ability to complete online learning modules within 90 days.
