Government Affairs
Basic Purpose
Manages NV Energy government affairs and government lobbying. Establishes and maintains effective communications and working relationships with key local government officials, key stakeholders, and community leaders. Works with high-level government representatives. Advises and counsels senior management on government and private sector perception of company. Supports Government Relations Executive Team. Coordinates local political initiatives with state and federal level strategies.
ResponsibilitiesManages NV Energy government affairs and government lobbying.
- Oversees all local government affairs activity that generate support and goodwill for company positions and policies
- Coordinates and directs activities that strengthen NV Energy’s effectiveness at the local political level, within northern and southern service territories. Acts as a lobbyist.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key local government officials and community leaders
- Fosters high visibility by developing and nurturing relationships and alliances with government, business, economic development, civic, and policy‑making organizations related to the electric and gas utility
- Advises and counsels senior management on government and private sector perception of company. Delivers and direct support for key internal customers
- Coordinate local political initiatives with state and federal level strategies
- Monitors statewide public policy and develops and implements strategy and objectives consistent with corporate goals
- Represents Company on government affairs matters at local and/or state levels
- Plans and executes communications and strategic political initiatives
- Provides leadership and policy recommendations on corporate and industry issues related to municipal government in statewide service territories
- Provides staff development, guidance and direction, including coaching and constructive feedback.
- Provides ongoing business training to the team that enables the staff to educate customers about utility issues.
- Participates on cross‑functional project teams, in support of corporate initiatives
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Bachelor’s degree in the area of specialty and 8 or more years of related experience with at least 5 years of management responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specialized Knowledge And Skills
High level knowledge of governmental regulations. Excellent time management, communications, decision‑making, presentation, human relations, and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of internal and external contacts.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required. Some overnight travel required.
