* Help coordinate and oversee the logistics, programming, research, and policy analysis of the Department.
* Serve as support in conducting student-led lobbying efforts at all levels of government.
* Act as the Director of Legislative Affairs in the absence of or at the request of the Director.
* Plan, organize, and execute the curriculum of the Government Relations Internship Program to include:
* Producing the education components twice a semester to include sentiments such as Policy Analysis, Student-led lobbying efforts, the Nevada Legislature and State Government Structure, Voter Registration, History of Nevada Politics, Policies that have impacted Higher Education, the Board of Regents, ASUN governing documents, data analysis, time management, leadership skills, and other topics related.
* Presentations or guest speakers that increase the learning mission of the program.
* Coordinating a system where interns will report to the officer in the Department of Legislative Affairs that the Assistant Director of Legislative Affairs deems appropriate.
* Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
* Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 credits
* Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents
* Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct
* Meet all deadlines set forth, attend all required meetings and training, work scheduled hours, properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time, assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada, behave in a manner that is ethical, and maintain a high level of integrity
* Other duties as called upon by my position
* Background in political science and government relations through course of study and/or prior work experience
* Existing knowledge of the Nevada State Legislature
* Motivation to support the goals and initiatives under the Impact Nevada platform through:
* Conducting student outreach to understand non-partisan legislative priorities of the student body
* Connecting with state, local, and federal policymakers to brainstorm policy solutions to student issues
* Actively tracking bill draft requests for 83rd Nevada State Legislature aligned with student interests
* Serving as a robust advocate within the Nevada System of Higher Education
* Furthering on-campus voter education and registration
* Sponsoring opportunities for political engagement on a nonpartisan basis
* Strong writing and policy analysis skills
* Ability to cultivate relationships with students, student clubs and organizations, and policymakers
* Ability to work effectively and respectfully with politically, ideologically, and culturally diverse people and communities
* Excellent organization and project management skills in a team-based environment with multiple projects
* Proficient at leading a cohesive team
