summary description
under general direction from the grant fiscal administrator and the business office, performs various grant and other accounting responsibilities. Duties include preparation of all grant financial reporting requirements, monitoring of grant expenditures and budgets, interaction with grant coordinators, interaction with nevada department of education staff, participation in grant monitoring visits, provides support for internal and external audits, performs ledger maintenance and related work as required.
exemplary duties/responsibilities
prepares all monthly financial reports in accordance with grant requirements; prepares monthly requests for reimbursement; monitors grant expenditures for compliance with federal, state or other grant requirements; inputs and monitors grant budgets; interacts with grant coordinators and other district personnel; interacts with nevada department of education staff; assists in financial statement preparation; assists with audits; maintains various subsidiary ledgers; prepares and posts journal entries;
reviews purchase requisitions and purchasing card transactions for accuracy; maintains position control allocations; prepares schedules, cost analyses, projections and reports as needed;; performs research and analysis as required; develops and maintains procedure manuals; and monitors and documents the accounts payable and payroll systems for quality assurance and operational efficiency.
employment standards
education/experience: any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
1. Graduation from an accredited college or university in accounting:

2. Three (3) years of experience as a professional accountant. Experience in a governmental organization and experience with grants and fund / cost accounting is desirable.
knowledge of: principles of supervision; governmental accounting practices; pronouncements by the financial accounting standards board (fasb); governmental accounting standards board (gasb); government finance officers association (gfoa); omb circulars a-87, a-128 and a-133; compliance supplement for single audits of state and local governments; edgar; ugg and other federal and state laws governing grants; computerized business systems and intermediate level knowledge of microsoft excel.
skill at: analyzing and resolving problem situations; interacting effectively with a variety of professional personnel; staff supervision; working independently with minimum supervision; and accurately perform highly detailed work
licenses/certificates: possession of a certified public accountant's certificate is desirable.

annual salary: 60,497 (entry step)
salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by washoe county school district are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.
