Position OverviewThe GIS Specialist provides geospatial support to project managers and office staff across a range of disciplines and project types. Responsibilities include producing professional maps and report figures, managing geospatial data, and performing basic spatial analysis. The ideal candidate is fully proficient with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, has experience with CAD data in the context of GIS, and has a strong sense of how spatial solutions can be applied to support project success.
Responsibilities- Develop and manage geodatabases, geospatial data, and related tabular data following established standards and best practices.
- Prepare professional maps and report figures that follow company guidelines, cartographic principals, and best practices.
- Perform basic spatial analysis and data visualization.
- Georeference technical drawings, CAD data, and maps to grid-based coordinate systems.
- Perform calculations, measurements, and estimations to support project needs.
- Support field mapping and data collection – create hardcopy field maps, manage GPS/GNSS devices and mobile applications, manage electronic survey forms, and oversee location‑based data collection.
- Independently manage multiple concurrent assignments.
- Attend meetings with clients, regulators, and consultants.
- Ability and willingness to develop cost estimates, proposals, schedules, and project plans.
- Minimum
Education Required:
Associate’s degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field (or equal combination of education and experience). - Minimum Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong understanding of data management principals including standardization, archiving, QAQC, performance optimization, and metadata management.
- Proficient with the Esri software suite including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, and Survey 123.
- Demonstrated experience in map making and application of standard cartographic methods, theories, and principles.
- Experience performing basic spatial analysis and producing calculations, measurements and estimations.
- Experience with drone operations is a plus.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), scripting languages (R, Python), databases, and standard office tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Familiarity with remote sensing and image processing as well as field data collection and GPS equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret blueprints, procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports.
- Preferred Qualifications: Degree or certificate in GIS/Geography/Geospatial sciences, environmental science, or related field (direct and relevant experience will also be considered in lieu of degree or certificate).
- Ability to perform basic spatial analysis and perform calculations, measurements, and estimations, with the ability to follow and/or establish best practices and standard operating procedures.
