ERS-NETA Electrical Testing Technician - Reno, NV

POSITION SUMMARY

Troubleshoot, test, and inspect electrical apparatus. Perform as the lead person on projects and other assignments as required. The role requires some technical supervision.

• Perform all aspects of testing and maintenance of electrical power distribution systems.
• Conduct troubleshooting, simple relay calibration, and use of load recording instrumentation for low and medium voltage switch gear testing up to 15 kV.
• Test and troubleshoot moderately complex electrical systems, simple relay systems, and power metering.
• Carry out simple power system studies, including short‑circuit analysis and protective device coordination.
• Write complete, detailed reports at project end and accurately process job billing.
• Perform complex analysis and evaluative tasks for equipment labeling projects, ensuring compliance with industry and international standards.
• Take an active role in business development and expansion.
• Develop written job proposals, including estimates of man‑hours, expenses, scope, and pricing.

• Graduate Engineer (BSEE or BSME) with no experience, or Graduate of an applicable program.
• Electrical Technical School graduate or military equivalent with a minimum of three years of related experience.
• High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of four years of related experience.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards such as OSHA and NFPA.
• Passed the NETA (National Electrical Testing Association) exam.
• Strong background in switch gear testing up to the 15 kV class.
• Good theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Good judgment, dependable, and able to supervise projects with technical expertise while managing business aspects.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, internet research, and operation of computer‑controlled test equipment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and night work; availability for out‑of‑town and international travel for up to several weeks.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell.
• Frequently required to sit, climb, and balance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift or move 100‑pound test sets.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Approximately 50% travel required.
