Overview
PARA EDUCATOR AIDE III – HIGHLY QUALIFIED STATUS (HQ):
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet HQ requirements (48 semester hours or an associate degree or higher, or a passing Para Pro Assessment score of at least 460).
Summary
Under supervision, works in a special education classroom assisting teaching staff in a variety of instructional activities. Provides individual or group assistance based on student needs, and may provide attendant services to students with various intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Performs related work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Teacher Aide III works in special education classrooms across programs such as CLS (Comprehensive Life Skills), EC (Early Childhood), MA (Multi-Age), SIP (Social Intervention Programs), Strategies (Autism Spectrum Disorders), Social Resource, and Resource classrooms. In Title I schools, must be highly qualified. May liaison between general education teachers and resource teachers; may preview instructional information and attend seminars as needed.
Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist students with intellectual, physical, or behavioral disabilities in classrooms and during transitions (bus boarding/alighting, moving to locations, accompanying to general education classrooms).
- Provide attendant services (diapering, toileting, hygiene) as needed; support health and hygiene instruction; follow student behavior plans and use positive behavior management.
- Move students weighing 50–80 pounds daily; assist with feeding and daily care; support instruction in functional life skills and modification of general education curriculum as needed.
- Record progress toward goals; assist in developing instructional materials, graphs, and charts; participate in district training programs and implement non-violent behavior interventions.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records; assist with classroom equipment and assistive technology; communicate concerns with special education teachers; assist with bulletin boards and field trips; assist children with medication when trained (if applicable).

- IEC - Integrated Kindergarten; IK - Integrated Kindergarten; CLS - Comprehensive Life Skills; SIP - Social Intervention Program; STRATEGIES; SOCIAL RESOURCE; AH - Hearing Impaired; VI - Vision Impairment: program-specific supports and curriculum alignment.

Experience:
Any education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills. Typical pathways include relevant experience demonstrating the ability to perform duties. Knowledge and skills cover educational principles, student behavior, positive behavior modification, communication, and basic office/record-keeping skills. Licenses/Certificates: CPI Certification. Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.

Salary:
Grade 16 (Sch A: $14.59; Sch B: $17.54); salaries subject to annual adjustments. New employees are normally placed on the entry step of the position's grade. Benefits available for regular, full-time (27.5 hours/week or more); see benefits page for details.
