Program Instructor
$19-20 per hour (DOE)
Full‑Time Seasonal Position: 30–40 hours/week in Spring/Fall;
Full‑Time (Summer). Start dates:
February 2 (Sacramento) and March 2 (Reno), 2026 to mid‑November 2026.
Location:
Reno, NV or Sacramento, CA.
Sierra Nevada Journeys seeks dynamic education professionals to expand our program base in Reno and Sacramento. The Program Instructor will teach a range of settings—including classroom, outdoor field studies, summer camps, and Family STEM Nights—and support the overall education operations of the Classrooms Unleashed program.
Areas of Responsibility- Lead Spring and Fall outdoor field studies with 12–20 K–6th grade students at local nature sites (up to 3 hours).
- Organize and emcee Family STEM Nights at elementary schools and community partners.
- Facilitate 60–90 minute after‑school STEM and team‑building activities for up to 30 students.
- Serve as Summer Camp Counselor, leading groups of 15 elementary‑aged children in STEM learning and camp activities (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.).
- Assist with program administration and curriculum development: print notebooks, prep lesson bins, grade assessments, enter evaluation responses, attend staff meetings, trainings, and outreach events.
- Availability:
Sacramento office Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–2 p.m.;
Reno office Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. (Wednesdays 3 p.m.–7 p.m.);
Summer full‑time Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. - Experience working with children.
- Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Reliable transportation and ability to commute‑10–45 minutes from assigned office.
- Background check clearance.
- Commitment to working with children of all backgrounds.
- Initiative, independent work, and positive attitude.
- Hourly pay $19–20 (DOE).
- Performance completion bonuses: $100 (first season), $250 (second), $500 (third). Total up to $850 for all three seasons.
