NATA Certified Athletic Trainer One Year Only (Ends May 2026) @ Sparks High

The position of Athletic Trainer is a stipend paid position during the academic school year. The duties include prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, reconditioning, health care administration, professional development, and responsibilities as specified in the NATA Certified Athletic Trainer Domains. The athlete trainer serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents, ensuring players participate only when physically able and that physician instructions are followed.

The trainer coordinates with the Activities/Athletic Director to ensure coverage of the training room and events.

Responsibilities
  • Prevention
    • Advise coaches on flexibility, strengthening, and conditioning programs.
    • Educate coaches and athletes on fitting and maintenance of protective equipment.
    • Apply preventative taping, special pads, and braces; fabricate specialty pads/braces.
    • Monitor environmental hazards.
    • Identify and correct common risk factors.
  • Recognition, Evaluation, and Immediate Care
    • Conduct initial evaluation of injuries and develop impression of injuries.
    • Obtain history, observe and inspect involved area, perform special testing procedures.
    • Administer proper first aid and emergency care, activate EMS if necessary.
    • Determine appropriate management and physician referral.
  • Rehabilitation and Reconditioning
    • Evaluate athlete using standard procedures and reassess to determine rehab program.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive rehab program with goals and therapeutic modalities.
    • Record rehabilitation progress and criteria for return to competition.
    • Serve as a resource for parents, staff, coaches, athletes.
  • Health Care Administration
    • Complete and maintain documentation related to medical history, injuries, treatment, rehabilitation, and referrals.
    • Assist in coordinating protocols for emergency management and referrals.
    • Communicate athlete’s progress to physicians and staff.
    • Establish relationship with team physician and community physicians.
  • Professional Development and Responsibility
    • Participate in staff meetings, educational and clinical activities to improve skills.
    • Adhere to ethical and legal statutes, rules, and guidelines.
    • Maintain high professional accountability.
  • Season Coverage
    • Fall: cover football practices, home and away games.
    • Winter: cover basketball games, wrestling meets, open training room hours.
    • Spring: cover baseball and softball games, track meets, open training room hours.
    • Establish daily hours of operation and rules for training room.
    • Budget, order, and inventory training supplies.
    • Advise athletes on health issues, nutrition, substance abuse.
Employment Standards
  • Education/

    Experience:

    Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA BOC), maintain Nevada State Licensure, and meet NATA role delineation standards.
  • Certifications:

    NATA member, local NATA district, State Athletic Trainers' Association, CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of:
    Environmental hazards, injury management, physician referrals, first aid.
  • Skills:

    Rapport with coaches and students, verbal and written communication, teaching sportsmanship.
  • Physical Demands:
    Sedentary with some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items or driving.
  • Work Environment:
    Office, meeting rooms, training rooms, libraries, vehicles; safe work practices, ventilation, lighting.

Annual stipend: $19,400 paid in 10 monthly installments ($1,940 per month).

Position duration:
Mid August to mid May, 15 hours per week.
