Transit Operator wages start at $23.16 per hour (2024 rates), with automatic increases after your first, second and third year of service.

This position offers the opportunity to become a skilled professional driver. Under general supervision, the employee in this position operates a transit vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and provides effective and safe transportation for the citizens of Regina, while providing exemplary customer service.

Employees must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including, but not limited to, performing the following tasks, which are constant during a normal shift as a Bus Operator:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time in the driver’s seat while wearing a seat belt.
  • Ability to bend, twist body and to manipulate controls independently or simultaneously at any given time, while wearing a seatbelt in the driver’s seat.
  • Ability to “reach over-head” with both arms to manipulate controls.
  • Constant twisting and neck rotation of different ranges to check mirrors, blind spots etc.
  • Ability to perform required pre-trip inspection, which involves walking, bending, squatting, reaching, twisting body in many different positions.
  • Medium duty lifting while assisting customers with special needs.
  • Constant gripping, pulling and pushing to manipulate control (steering controls, control valves, etc.)
  • Bending, stooping, crouching and twisting in order to keep doorways clear of ice and snow build-up.

    Note:

    Work schedules vary, seven (7) days per week including split shifts, early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends and holidays. Days off vary. This is a seniority-based environment where work schedules, days off, vacation and other absences are based on seniority and availability to maintain service levels.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, courteous communication — verbally, in writing, and over two-way radio — to ensure passengers feel informed and supported throughout their trip.
  • Deliver safe, reliable, and on-time transportation while following all Regina Transit rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Offer helpful assistance to passengers, including providing route and schedule information, answering questions, and ensuring fares are collected appropriately.
  • Prioritize passenger safety during boarding, riding, and exiting the bus, always maintaining a calm and attentive presence.
  • Report operational issues promptly, including delays, collisions, customer concerns, or mechanical problems, to support smooth service delivery.
  • Navigate diverse and sometimes complex customer interactions with patience, professionalism, and respect, while maintaining focus on safety and service.
  • Manage difficult or disruptive situations involving passengers or the public, using strong de-escalation and customer service skills.
  • Drive defensively and responsibly, adhering to all traffic laws and safe-driving practices.
  • Represent Regina Transit with professionalism, demonstrating ethical conduct, accountability, and a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Maintain excellent punctuality and reliability, ensuring consistent service for passengers and colleagues.
