The Ministry of Social Services’ Income Assistance Programs Division is looking for a collaborative, respectful, motivated and strategic professional who is a strong writer to fill the role of Research and Information Analyst.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Program Design and Operational Policy this position will coordinate all written materials for the division. You will work under tight deadlines to consistently produce high quality work.

This includes identifying and developing new communication tools that supports internal and external communications and analyzing and integrating information from multiple sources. This role will also analyze and create written materials from various sources, validate accuracy and ensure consistent data and information.

As the Research and Information Analyst, you will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with leadership and staff within the division, ministry and government;
  • Research and prepare briefing materials, correspondence and statistical reports;
  • Adapt language to the intended audience;
  • Assess which types/pieces of information are sensitive, proprietary, and/or subject to legislation;
  • Design, develop, coordinate, and evaluate communications activities and materials that provide consistent and accurate messaging that reflects the ministry’s objectives;
  • Coordinate and respond to inquiries on behalf of the ministry regarding programs and policies;
  • Analyze written materials to ensure consistent/reliable and valid information is being used and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Provide information to the Deputy Minister’s Office and staff on casework and referrals; and,
  • Ensure the timeliness, flow and completion of information in the division through:managing approvals on all correspondence, briefing notes and session materials;tracking requests and responses while managing timelines; andreviewing materials to ensure it is accurate, current and meets visual identity standards.
  • Ideal Candidate

    Our candidate of choice will have superior organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Confidentiality and the ability to exercise good judgment is required as well as the ability to develop excellent working relationships. The ideal candidate will enjoy the use of language to convey sometimes complex and sensitive concepts in a way that is fully understood by the end-user. Knowledge of government decision-making processes and income assistance IT systems is required.

    You will demonstrate:

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical or complex information both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences including external stakeholders, front-line staff, program managers, and senior leadership;
  • Sound judgment and issues management;
  • Ability to contribute to a positive culture;
  • Proficient operation of various computer applications such as PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Excel (word processing, create tables and charts, merge files, create and edit templates) and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to achieve results; and,
  • Ability to effectively manage a project from start to finish.
  • The knowledge and skills required are typically obtained through a university degree in English, journalism, social work or a related discipline, or a combination of education with relevant work experience.     A - SGEU Office 36 - one day off every two weeks
