Sask Energy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Gas Control Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the natural gas pipeline system. The Gas Control Specialist provides subject matter expertise in the execution and continuous improvement of the systems of procedures, standards, and technologies that ensure the standardized operation of the Control Room.
This position works in consultation with management to provide technical expertise in the design, implementation and enhancement of Gas Control processes and procedures.
Position Details
Non-union - This position is permanent full time.
Key Accountabilities
Lead the process for the development, design, implementation, and continuous improvement of processes and practices in support of the Alarm Management Program in alignment with industry best practices.
Develop, design, implement and maintain Gas Control displays used for the display, monitoring, and control of information on the pipeline Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in alignment with recognized standards and industry best practices.
Develop key performance indicators and maintain dashboards for the Control Room Management Program including identifying impacts to key performance metrics and recommending improvements aligned with industry best practices.
Oversee the development and ongoing maintenance of Gas Control work instructions, training modules and operating philosophy manuals in support of the Gas Control Competency Management Program.
Provide subject matter expertise in collaboration with internal stakeholders to support the development of Gas Control and SCADA design standards and ensure compliance with developed design standards in Gas control operations and throughout the lifecycle and turnover of projects.
Act as a technical escalation point, leading incident and problem management activities including root cause analysis.
Support assigned staff performing Gas Control responsibilities by providing technical expertise to uphold quality and alignment with industry standards. Deliver expert input on special projects and participate in the evaluation and assessment of new technologies in support of the continuous improvement of the Control Room Management Program. Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related field.
Eight (8) years experience in Gas Control, pipeline operations, or a similar role in the energy sector.
Strong working knowledge and understanding of SCADA systems, pipeline hydraulics, gas transmission principles and industry best practices.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for natural gas pipeline operations.
Ability to work on a team while building and maintaining effective relationships.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
Additional Information
Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion.
A Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
