Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for an Engineering and Operations Technician (EOT) to join our expanding Data Centre Engineering and Operations (DCEO) Infrastructure Operations team in Canada.
The Engineering and Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centre. Data centre equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. EOTs are Amazon's front line respondents for electrical and mechanical issues affecting Amazon's availability.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary business interface with the Colocation provider's technical and facility teams to address day-to-day operational requirements within the Availability Zone (AZ)
- Supervise on-site Colocation providers and respective contractors to ensure all works performed comply with established practices, procedures and local legislation
- Manage Colocation suppliers to conduct routine maintenance, and respond to emergency services for critical systems including switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
- Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for Data Centre facility
- Engage in non-office on-call responsibilities and respond promptly to emergency situations or incidents, such as power failures or natural disasters
- Deeply involve with Colocation provider and contractors to resolve infrastructure engineering issues and conduct root cause analysis for operational issues
- Establish comprehensive English documentation for business and facility operations in partnership with the Colocation provider
- Constantly explore and recommend improvements to enhance the data centre safety, security, and availability
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date Data Centre infrastructure inventory through related matrices and internal dashboards
- Take charge of the installation of the racks and conduct rack space, power/cooling assessments
- Lead new build and expansion projects to improve operations efficiency, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases
- Assist in internal recruitment including conducting interviews and assisting with onboarding
- Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Centre operations including utility substation feeds, transformers, switch gear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA/VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel/gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems or SCADA systems
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with facility management, and operating and maintaining infrastructure equipment in critical facilities such as data centres, operation factories, substations, hospitals, etc.
- Experience in major facilities incident management
- Bilingualism in French and English is required for this position
- Must obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada
- Good work attitude and eagerness to learn, with deep attention to details and accuracy; strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and take initiative, while being a collaborative team player
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in facility management and critical infrastructure operations; knowledge of electrical systems including switch gear, UPS, generators, PDUs, chillers, SCADA; bilingualism in French and English; active Reliability Status security clearance with Government of Canada
