Clifton is currently searching for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our team in any of our locations as  Director of Civil . This role will be a valued member of Clifton’s Leadership Team and report to the Chief Operating Officer. You will drive business results, provide technical and people leadership, and ensure the overall success and growth of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop Clifton’s Civil Engineering practice with a focus on collaboration to support all practice teams corporately.

Create annual business plans, develop budgets, and drive performance objectives for your practice.

Provide technical and business leadership to promote a high level of technical competence within your practice and foster an inclusive work environment that prioritizes safety, respect, and well‑being for everyone.

Actively participate in the development and mentorship of your team with a strong focus on succession planning and providing targeted support for emerging leaders and high performers.

Lead or support the recruitment process for your practice with a focus on building high‑performing teams.

Drive business development initiatives by building and nurturing client relationships, leading proposal pursuits, and actively developing opportunities for growth within your area of practice.

Lead or support the planning, design, and execution of multidisciplinary civil infrastructure and capital expansion projects including transportation systems (roads, highways, and rail), site development, utility coordination, and public works initiatives across both public and private sectors.

Oversee preparation of engineering drawings, detailed design packages, operating plans, proposals, and other technical documentation for civil engineering projects.

Act as a subject matter expert providing guidance in the evaluation, selection, and application of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for civil engineering projects.

Ensure effective project management, including accountability for financial and technical performance within your area of practice.

Act as a safety leader and champion for Clifton’s health and safety programme.

Adhere to Clifton’s Quality Management System (QMS) in project delivery, including contracts management.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited post‑secondary institution. A graduate degree is an asset.

Registered or eligible for registration as a professional Engineer in your province of practice. Must be eligible for registration in other Canadian jurisdictions as required.

Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience in civil engineering and design engineering consulting, and other related industry experience with a focus on project management.

Experience with strategic and business planning as well as financial management (including forecasting and budgeting) is an asset.

Familiarity with computer‑assisted engineering and design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and others is considered an asset.
