We’re looking for a compassionate and energetic individual to become a House Parent on our team. In this role, you’ll create a nurturing, comforting, and safe environment within our group living setting. You’ll be essential in maintaining household standards for cleanliness, nutrition, and budget management, all while fostering a supportive space for individuals with complex needs, behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, and more.
Educationand Professional Certification
- High school diploma required.
- Senior matriculation with specialized courses in food handling, cooking, or communication is an asset.
- At least one (1) year of experience cooking for large groups, such as in a family setting.
- Experience working with children, youth, or adults facing behavioral, cognitive, mental health, or developmental challenges is desirable.
- Proficient cooking and baking skills.
- Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide.
- Ability to create individualized meal plans for specialized dietary needs.
- Understanding of budgeting and resource allocation.
- Skillful in cleaning and maintaining a household.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Capable of working collaboratively within a team and independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a talent for building genuine relationships.
- Emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Demonstrates empathy, patience, and understanding in everyday interactions.
- Inclusive approach towards individuals with diverse needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Open to ongoing education and professional development.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Develop and execute monthly meal plans.
- Prepare nutritious, high-quality home‑cooked meals, snacks, and baked goods. Assist with regular and special occasion meals as needed.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping.
- Provide compassionate care and support to individuals with complex needs.
- Assist in teaching life skills such as self‑care, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and fostering positive interactions.
- Complete reports and documentation with accuracy and timeliness, following agency standards.
- Undertake other related duties as assigned.
- Offer guidance and feedback during morning routines, supporting the team and unit manager.
- Model positive behavior, uphold agency values, and demonstrate fairness.
- Provide support and direction in areas such as housekeeping, seasonal decorating, and meal preparation.
- Manage and reconcile a monthly budget for food and supplies.
- Submit receipts and reconcile expenses for manager‑approved expenditures.
- Accurately complete vehicle logs when using agency vehicles.
- Plan and purchase nutritious, quality, and non‑prepackaged food items within budget.
- Purchase household and hygiene supplies as needed.
- Ensure daily maintenance of cleanliness in the home.
- Promote and maintain safe work practices and procedures.
- Follow agency and government regulations, policies, and instructions, whether written or verbal.
- Completion of all mandatory training as per agency policy and guidelines.
- A Class 5 Novice 2 or higher driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under our commercial auto insurance policy are required.
Wage Range: $20.07 to $25.96 per hour.
