The successful candidate will join a college dedicated to the students it serves.

Education

The Next Up Program aims to strengthen the college’s capacity to support foster youth in the local service area, encouraging enrollment, retention, degree completion, and transfer of current and former foster youth. The Counselor, Next Up will:

  • Provide the total range of community college academic, transfer and career counseling, including orientation and the development of student educational plans (SEP);
  • Provide personal counseling on a variety of personal challenges, including relationship issues, interpersonal skills, psychological/behavioral difficulties, decision making, chemical dependency, gender/sexuality issues, health concerns;
  • Provide referrals to external community agencies for housing, health, mental health and/or professional counseling;
  • Interpret English/math assessments;
  • Administer and interpret behavioral skills assessments;
  • Instruct counseling classes for college success, career planning, study skills and transfer preparation;
  • Provide Independent Living instruction and facilitate small groups on topics of interest;
  • Provide special assistance for students on academic probation;
  • Meet with faculty and other academic staff as necessary to support individual educational programs;
  • Participate in program development, coordinate activities or specialized programs, and evaluate activities or programs;
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with campus and community partners;
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Work and/or teach in a variety of instructional settings, including evenings, weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction as needed;
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Other duties as assigned.
