Essential FunctionsAt Madera Community College we value equity-minded practices. - Provide instruction in English on campus and/or off-site locations, including dual enrollment at local high schools as needed.
- Teach a full schedule of English composition and English composition support courses as needed.
- Implement practices to develop writing skills at all levels.
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
- Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times (evening, weekends, online, or off-campus); may include off-campus instruction.
- Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition; or
- Bachelor's in any of the above and Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Note: If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match exactly as stated, you must petition for equivalency. For example: if your qualifying degree is in creative writing and you do not have a bachelors in English, you will need to petition for equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
- Experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes.
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to support racially minoritized students.
- Experience working with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
- Proficiency with computers and other technologies used in high-quality instruction and student support.
- Effective communication with students and staff.
- Experience teaching transfer-level English and knowledge of current theories and methods for teaching writing.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; experience teaching distance education.
- Willingness to participate in English co-requisite support training and knowledge of the community college mission.
- Experience teaching English composition and English literature courses.
178 duty days per year.
Salary And BenefitsStarting annual salary is $71,054 - $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. The District offers medical, dental, and vision coverage for employee and dependents, life insurance, and CalSTRS retirement.
