Responsibilities
  • Providing comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career, personal and life transitions, and counseling on an appointment and walk-in basis;
  • Assisting in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as orientation, counseling and follow-up services to students;
  • Assisting students with major selection, develop student education plans (SEPs), aligned with their educational goals, career, and Guided Pathways;
  • Assisting with Guided Pathways, Student Equity Achievement (SEA), and other student success initiatives;
  • Assisting and collaborating in developing programs and student support services with an emphasis on counseling services that will improve student access to college, increase student retention, and completion rates;
  • Assisting, as needed, with matriculation, student outreach, and recruitment activities in the community and on campus;
  • Providing assistance and referrals to on/off campus resources and student support services including Admissions & Records, EOPS, CalWORKs, Career/Transfer & Employment Center, DSP&S, Financial Aid, Academic Success Centers, STEM, TRiO, and off-campus community resources;
  • Participating in meetings, conferences, trainings, and other professional development activities to maintain the expertise required to provide accurate and reliable information and support to students seeking to complete a certificate, associate degree, or transfer;
  • Providing assistance to new and prospective students with college applications and college orientation;
  • Assisting and maintaining program website to ensure content is accurate for students to access;
  • Monitoring and implementing programs in compliance with Federal, State, District, and college regulations, policies, and procedures;
  • Developing and/or revising curriculum and programs, including program review and developing and assessing student learning outcomes for courses and programs to improve student learning;
  • Participating in the accreditation process;
  • Developing and/or utilizing technologies for classroom presentations;
  • Working with colleagues within and beyond the discipline to implement the guided pathways concept to promote student success and completion;
  • Developing and maintaining counseling notes in the college's electronic record-keeping software, in a timely and effective manner;
  • Training new counselors;
  • Collaborating with instructional and counseling faculty and staff from other departments and programs, including Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, EOPS/CARE, DSPS, Career & Employment Center, Transfer Center, Veterans Resource Center, TRiO Student Support Services, and other special programs;
  • Collaborating with others to evaluate needs of students within the pathway to identify gaps in regards to equity, student engagement, success and intervention;
