Providing instruction in automotive technology/advanced technology vehicle (ATC)/zero emission vehicle (ZEV) on the Fresno City College campus and/or at off‑site community campus locations, the instructor will be responsible for:
- Teaching the Automotive Technology/Advanced Technology Vehicle (ATV)/Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) curriculum, including engine repair, diagnosis, maintenance, shop skills, safety, measurement, hand tools, engine rebuilding, transmissions, chassis electrical systems, hydraulic/brakes, suspension, steering, axles, differential, performance, emissions, air conditioning, and smog certification.
- Communicating effectively with students and staff.
- Assisting in course and curriculum design; program review; developing instructional aids with Canvas LMS/OEM LMS.
- Supporting short‑term courses such as smog/smoke certification, brakes & alignment, electrical & zero‑emission vehicles.
- Co‑managing the instructional budget.
- Advising students and participating in recruiting activities.
- Attending professional meetings, workshops, and committees as needed.
- Engaging in program review, student learning outcomes, and assessment to improve learning.
- Teaching assignments across various instructional settings, including evening, weekend, online or off‑campus, large‑group instruction.
- Performing all duties outlined in Administrative Regulation 7122 and other customary instructor responsibilities.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of full‑time equivalent professional experience; or
- Associate degree and six (6) years of full‑time equivalent professional experience; or
- Valid California Community College credential; or
- Equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds and the need for equity‑minded practice in the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion across responsibilities.
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical exclusion patterns.
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices.
- Teaching experience and related professional experience in automotive/diesel/MDHD truck/transit bus areas.
- Training and practical experience in advanced technology and zero‑emission vehicles.
- Ability to involve students in practical industry applications.
- Strong computer skills.
- Membership in professional automotive/diesel organizations and ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician (A series).
- California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) smog technician certification.
