Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Software Engineer to join our diverse team, working on the Forward Area Air Defense (FAAD) portfolio of programs in Redondo Beach, CA. The selected candidate will develop software for an Army Air Defense System that includes defense against manned aircraft; rockets, artillery, and mortars; unmanned aerial systems (UAS); and cruise missile defense.
Requisition Levels- Principal Software Engineer – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline (and 5 years of relevant experience in Object‑Oriented Languages (OOL); or 3 years with a Master’s; 0 years with a PhD) or 9 years of experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
- Senior Principal Software Engineer – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline (and 8 years of relevant experience in Object‑Oriented Languages (OOL); or 6 years with a Master’s; 3 years with a PhD) or 12 years of experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
- Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs application software and systems to process messages and maintain force structure, track management, and battlefield geometry data.
- Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; ensures software standards are met.
- Understanding of software design principles and proficiency in object‑oriented programming languages (any combination of Java, C, C++).
- Demonstrated experience spearheading end‑to‑end software‑development initiatives with minimal supervisory guidance.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and proven track record delivering innovative and high‑quality solutions.
- Familiarity with scripting, particularly in Korn Shell or Bash.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Works well with other engineers on a schedule‑driven program.
- Strong multi‑tasking and time‑management skills.
- Hold or be able to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
- Experience with Ada programming language.
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining/troubleshooting operating systems, software, servers, and hardware.
- Experience performing Verification Tests to verify software requirements, including developing, implementing, and maintaining Software Test Plans, and preparing Test/Inspection Reports.
- Knowledge and experience managing software builds across multiple versions.
- Ability to work with diverse technical, programmatic and user communities, supporting the modernization, capability development, integration and test of an Army command and control system.
- Current DoD Secret clearance.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long‑Term Incentives.
