Job Description:

As a Software Engineer on the Speed Limits team, you won't just be writing code-you'll be the architect of accuracy. You will build the Java-based pipelines that process global speed limit data and dive deep into the data to solve complex geospatial puzzles. Your work directly impacts millions of drivers by ensuring the maps they rely on are safe, accurate, and up-to-date.

What You'll Do

• Engineer & Iterate:
  Design and maintain high-scale data ingestion pipelines using Java and Flume.
• Analyze & Solve:
  Go beyond the "how" to the "why." You'll use SQL, Colab, and internal tools to analyze "golden data" and operator evaluations to find out why a speed limit prediction missed the mark.
• Optimize Quality:
  Identify patterns in errors and implement algorithmic enhancements to improve data coverage and precision.
• Collaborate:
  Partner with Data Analysts and Product Managers to turn raw metrics into actionable software improvements.

What We're Looking For

• The Java Expert:
  You have 2+ years of professional experience with Java and a solid grasp of data structures and algorithms.
• The Data Detective:
  You are proficient in SQL and love querying large datasets to find the "needle in the haystack."
• The Problem Solver:
  You have a keen eye for detail and can communicate complex technical findings clearly.
• The Independent Lead:
  You're comfortable managing your own priorities and driving projects from concept to deployment.

Bonus Points For

• Experience with stack (Blaze, Flume Java, Borg).
• Knowledge of geospatial data or mapping concepts (Map Facts, Feature Protos).
• A background in Statistics or experience with A/B testing and evaluation frameworks. Advanced degrees (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
