Summary
At Reality Labs Research, we are at the forefront of pioneering research into new technologies aimed at revolutionizing user interface technologies for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Our focus is on developing soft and conformable wearables that provide seamless user experiences, addressing both integration and manufacturing challenges to shape the future of XR interactions. As a Research Scientist Intern, you will collaborate with a team of expert research scientists, hardware engineers, and software developers.
Your role will involve building groundbreaking prototypes and advancing the technology that will make XR universal. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Design, prototype, and characterize novel wearable tactile sensors capable of detecting and predicting slip, and/or covering large areas with high-density resolution.
Model sensor performance in the context of performing dexterous manipulation tasks.
Research, develop, and characterize next-generation soft wearable sensing technologies.
Collaborate with the broader Reality Labs team to provide creative solutions for challenges in soft wearables and sensing technologies.
Focus on fundamental scientific and engineering questions related to the complex deformation of soft wearable devices.
Leverage experimental and characterization data to iteratively improve tactile sensor designs.
Effectively communicate and publish research activities and findings to collaborators across diverse disciplines.
Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Robotics or relevant technical field
2+ years experience with hardware prototyping, soft wearable technologies, and hands-on experience including but not limited to soft transducers design, manufacturing and characterization OR 3+ years of experience in optimizing sensor design using data-based approaches or similar
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Intent to return to the degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
Demonstrated experience via an internship, work experience, or widely used contributions to open source projects
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as ISSCC, VLSI Symposium, ESSCIRC or similar
Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
