Summary

At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products. Our mission is to create see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. This involves designing the architecture and all display sub-systems for AR glasses, based on leading technologies developed by Meta’s teams. As an Engineering Manager for Display Metrology, you will be responsible for leading a team of world-class engineers to define, develop, and deploy robust, high-throughput, and scalable metrology solutions for our next‑generation AR and Smart Glass products.

You will be a key leader in our organization, responsible for the strategy and execution of Incoming Quality Control (IQC) and Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) metrology, test solutions for our waveguide display components at our global manufacturing partner sites. Your leadership will be critical in ensuring the quality and performance of the optical systems at the heart of our products.

Metrology Engineering Manager Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing team of optical metrology engineers responsible for waveguide display quality

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for IQC and OQC of AR waveguide displays across a global supply chain

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including design, engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing partners, to define quality standards and inspection procedures

  • Drive the development and qualification of custom and off‑the‑shelf metrology equipment for high‑volume manufacturing environments

  • Oversee the validation and deployment of metrology solutions at factory locations, ensuring measurement integrity and repeatability

  • Analyze production data to identify trends, root cause failures, and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes

  • Manage relationships with external vendors and partners for metrology systems and components

  • Communicate program status, risks, and key findings to executive leadership and other stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for metrology recipes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), test protocols, and quality specifications to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer across global factory sites

  • Lead troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of metrology tool failures, measurement anomalies, and out‑of‑spec conditions, driving rapid resolution to minimize production line downtime

  • Partner with design and process engineering teams to enable Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT), ensuring that waveguide display architectures are optimized for high‑throughput metrology and inspection from early development stages

  • Drive the creation of scalable metrology infrastructure and automation roadmaps that align with product ramp timelines and increasing production volume demands

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • 4+ years of experience in a technical leadership or management role

  • 8+ years of experience in optical metrology, characterization, or testing of optical components or systems

  • Proven experience with quality control methodologies (IQC/OQC) in a high‑volume manufacturing environment covering functional, dimensional and inspection solutions

  • Demonstrated understanding of optical principles, including interferometry, spectroscopy, and imaging systems

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field

  • Experience with waveguide optics and display technologies for AR/VR applications

  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams across different geographies and time zones

  • Expertise in statistical data analysis and process control (e.g., JMP, Minitab)

  • Familiarity with functional, dimensional and automated optical inspection (AOI) metrology systems and machine vision

  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and best practices for handling sensitive optical components

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation

  • Public Compensation
