Substitute School Safety and Prevention Specialist
Work on an on-call basis during the school year to fill in for vacancies as needed. Work hours will vary based on the assignment.
Substitute hourly rate for : $30.80/hr
This is a non-benefited position. On call basis only.
SUMMARY:Under the direction of the School Safety and Crisis Manager and School Administrator, the School Safety and Prevention Specialist (“SSPS”) patrols the school campus to ensure the safety and protection of students, staff, and property. They serve as a proactive team member focused on relationship‑based and student‑centered preventative strategies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Interact and engage with students to help build a safe and positive school climate while providing supervision and positive behavior redirection
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students and staff by supervising hallways, parking lots, grounds, and adjacent area and de‑escalating situations
- May provide coverage at after‑hours school functions
- Assist administrators in escorting, searching, and conducting incident investigations and submit required documentation as requested
- Participate in safety briefings and coordinate efforts with school administration, SRO, custodial services and other agencies as directed
- Assist administration with campus security systems as needed
- Attend meetings and trainings as required
- Participate in emergency response planning
- Provide assistance to other agencies as needed
- Assist with traffic and crosswalk control as needed
- Provide assistance to school and district administration in completing school safety audits
- Other duties as assigned by Building Administrator or School Safety and Crisis Manager
- Knowledge of emotional development of adolescents and the impact on behavior
- Knowledge of methods to safely de‑escalate and adapt to difficult situations
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Ability to perform job duties in a professional and respectful manner with good judgement.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
- Possess effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to read, interpret and follow oral and written directions, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the general public in a professional manner
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Proof of High School diploma or GED will be required in the form of original diploma or copy of Official Transcripts.
