A teacher at Overlake is responsible for the education and oversight of students. In addition to possessing content knowledge in their given subject area, Overlake teachers are responsible for continually honing their pedagogical skill and subject specific knowledge, engaging actively in professional development. Teachers are expected to be active members of the Overlake community beyond duties directly related to teaching and to provide supervision whenever they are among students.
They take responsibility for helping students to learn and uphold Overlake’s core values and community expectations and support students by attending games, performances and other student events from time to time.
- Teach 4 courses as assigned by School Leadership.
- If a faculty member serves as a Department Chair or in another commensurate leadership role, the faculty member will receive one class reduction, its equivalent, or additional compensation depending on student load as determined by School Leadership.
- Arrive at school by 8:00 am and be available to students until 3:30 pm daily.
- Serve as an advisor/homeroom teacher.
- Attend the following as directed by School Leadership:
- Faculty, division, department, all-school, and grade-level meetings.
- All School, Upper School, Middle School, and special assemblies.
- Fall Retreat overnight(s).
- New Family Orientations (Upper School and/or Middle School).
- Back to School Nights (Upper School and/or Middle School).
- Student-Led Conferences & Parent Teacher Conferences.
- Graduation and senior specific events.
- August In-Service/Professional development days.
- Two of three Admissions Open Houses or its equivalent, as determined by School Leadership.
- Project Week.
- Proctor exams.
- Substitute/cover for absent teachers.
- Sponsor or advise at least one student organization or group (i.e., clubs, student-led organization, affinity group, etc.)
- Be an adult supervisory presence whenever among students before, during, and after school and at lunch (in the campus center).
- Chaperone class and grade-level events (dances, socials, etc.)
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
- Faculty meetings before the start of school in August for New Faculty, Department Chairs, other leaders.
- Faculty meetings before the start of school in August for returning Faculty.
- Professional development when school ends in June.
- Other duties as assigned by School Leadership.
- Actively engage in the professional learning cycle of supervision and evaluation.
- Maintain an accurate and updated LMS that meets Division and Department expectations, including final grade posting by the deadlines.
- Attend all department meetings; participate in the growth and development of the department.
- Work on scope and sequence with fellow department members.
- Keep curriculum up to date in curriculum map.
