Overview

We are seeking a Buyer/Planner to support our production facility by managing purchasing activities, supply planning, and inventory control. This role is responsible for ensuring materials and services are sourced at competitive cost, quality, and delivery levels while maintaining efficient supply plans and inventory levels to meet customer demand. The ideal candidate will work closely with supply chain, production, and commercial teams to manage capacity constraints, maintain strong supplier relationships, and ensure finished goods are available to meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain supply plans, purchase orders, inventory levels, reorder points, and other documentation related to material flow.
  • Initiate purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and special tools.
  • Coordinate with plant engineering to ensure timely sourcing of products and services.
  • Work closely with production teams to identify potential supply issues and develop solutions.
  • Plan and schedule the receipt of materials and maintain accurate inventory control.
  • Maintain working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes, and warehouse inventory control.
  • Secure and analyze supplier quotations and negotiate pricing and terms.
  • Recommend suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness.
  • Monitor market trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing improvements related to assigned commodities.
  • Collaborate with the Commodity Manager to maintain monthly supply plans for international suppliers.
  • Monitor forecast versus actual demand and adjust supply plans accordingly.
  • Manage supplier capacity constraints and implement adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain finished goods inventory levels aligned with safety stock plans and achieve a customer service level of 98% or higher.
  • Ensure ERP systems are updated to reflect current supply plans.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service to communicate potential supply issues and solutions.
  • Assist in managing slow-moving or obsolete finished goods inventory.
  • Visit supplier facilities when necessary to evaluate new sources and resolve production, design, quality, or delivery challenges.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Commodity Manager.
Requirements Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in a buying or sourcing role.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • APICS certification (CPIM and/or CPP) is a plus.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager.
