- Control melt level, flow, and system temperature using process control systems.
- Monitor the casting process continuously to maintain precise thickness/weight tolerances and zero‑scrap lead casting.
- Conduct routine maintenance—mold/lug chamber cleaning, lubricating guide pins, and replacing worn components or mold coats.
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections using gauges; sample and document quality parameters.
- Identify process deviations or quality defects; initiate corrective measures or elevate to supervision immediately.
- Keep accurate production, maintenance, and quality logs via manual or computerized systems.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols including PPE usage, lead handling, and housekeeping requirements.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years in continuous or gravity casting in manufacturing (e.g., metal or battery plate casting).
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot production equipment.
- Experience monitoring process parameters (temperature, flow, cooling).
- Competency using gauges, meters, and data systems for quality control.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for prolonged periods, and work in noisy environments.
- Experience specifically with Wirtz Con Cast or similar continuous grid casting systems.
- Familiarity with lead‑alloy chemistry used in battery grids.
- Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment.
- Typical battery manufacturing environment with moderate‑to‑high noise levels.
- Exposure to high‑temperature surfaces and hot lead‑metal systems.
- PPE required: safety glasses, gloves, respirators/face shields, protective apparel.
- Physical demands: standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Shift work including weekends or overtime as production requires.
