Job Purpose:
We are looking for a dedicated Psychology graduate to join our specialist school as an Aspiring Educational Support Assistant. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience working with children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and associated challenging behaviours. You will join a friendly, energetic, and creative team, working closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide personalised learning and pastoral support.
The School:
This specialist school caters for children ages 4
-19 years ith learning difficulties. Many pupils also have sensory impairments, physical disabilities, or challenging behaviours that will need someone to give that extra support during school term.
We're looking for: This is an excellent opportunity for Psychology graduates aspiring to work in Educational Psychology, Therapy, Clinical Psychology, or SEND support. A clear ambition to become a clinical psychologist, occupational therapist, or educational psychologist. Experience working with children or young people with additional needs (desirable). Emotional resilience, strong communication, and a nurturing mindset. Commitment to a full academic year of consistent support.
Key Responsibilities:
Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils to support learning and engagement.
Assist in planning activities to match individual pupil ability and needs, under the guidance of teachers.
Support the development of social skills and personal growth in pupils.
Provide academic and pastoral support, fostering confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and parents to ensure consistency in learning and care.
Help implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual plans.
Skills & Attributes:
Psychology graduate with an interest in special education and SEND support.
Patience, empathy, and understanding of children with complex needs.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Willingness to learn and develop skills in special education and therapy support.
Experience with young people with SEND is desirable but not essential.
