Role Overview
The Tekla Draughtsman will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, and erection information using Tekla Structures for complex structural steel projects. The role requires close coordination with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and site teams to ensure drawings are technically correct, buildable, and issued in line with programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed Tekla Structures models for structural steelwork in accordance with project specifications and design information
Generate fabrication drawings, GA drawings, and erection drawings to industry and company standards
Interpret structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and calculations
Coordinate steelwork models with other disciplines and resolve clashes where required
Prepare bolt lists, material take-offs, and NC data for fabrication
Incorporate engineer and client comments accurately and efficiently
Maintain drawing registers and manage revisions in line with QA procedures
Liaise with project managers, engineers, fabricators, and site teams to resolve technical queries
Ensure all drawings comply with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and project-specific requirements
Support project delivery by meeting agreed deadlines and programme milestones
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Tekla Draughtsman within the structural steelwork industry
Strong proficiency in Tekla Structures (modelling and drawing production)
Experience producing fabrication and erection drawings for complex steel structures
Good understanding of structural steelwork, connections, and fabrication processes
Ability to read and interpret engineering calculations and design drawings
Knowledge of UK steelwork standards and best practice
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Desirable Skills & Experience
Understanding of BIM workflows and clash detection
Familiarity with project collaboration platforms (e.g. Viewpoint, Aconex, Trimble Connect)
Experience coordinating with temporary works and secondary steelwork
HNC / HND / Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
