Overview

The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) is located at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is in Redding, a city of about 90,000 residents. Shasta College is known for its commitment to equitable education outcomes and community development, offering innovative programs such as accelerated pathways for high‑school students and continuing education for returning students.

More than 11,000 students enroll annually and receive educational services across a wide range of skills and abilities.

Position Summary

Full‑time faculty instructors are contracted for 175 days per year, including 164 days of classroom instruction and 11 days of professional growth. Faculty may teach up to 18 weeks of summer and winter intersessions. The Fall and Spring semesters each contain 17 weeks of instruction (approximately 82 instructional days). The anticipated start date is the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester.

Teachers may be expected to teach online and/or at the Tehama Campus in Red Bluff. The position is classified on the current Faculty Salary Schedule, with a starting salary range of $63,500.44–$ per year for 2025‑2026, and a potential $2,000/year doctorate differential. State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) benefits are included.

Responsibilities
  • Meet classes/laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar.
  • Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and district guidelines.
  • Maintain online course components for online and hybrid courses, providing asynchronous or synchronous content delivery as required.
  • Provide regular student‑student and student‑instructor contact for online and hybrid courses.
  • Distribute a syllabus during the first week of class, communicating course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements per district syllabus guidelines.
  • Provide regular, timely feedback and return all graded work promptly.
  • Assign final grades in accordance with district policy, California Education Code, and Title 5.
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in district policy and applicable law.
  • Submit textbook and instructional material requisitions in a timely manner, considering cost to students.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.
  • Supervise students in off‑campus activities when required.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services during scheduled office hours.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.
  • Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, accurately and on time.
  • Perform discipline‑specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
  • Schedule, maintain, and communicate office hour days and times to students and division staff.
  • Participate in participatory governance through district committees.
  • Participate in curriculum review, program review, and annual planning cycles.
  • Participate in hiring, selection, and recruitment processes when needed.
  • Attend department and division meetings.
  • Assess learning outcomes and participate in related processes.
  • Engage in professional development activities that improve pedagogy.
  • Continue to develop professional skills and remain current in subject matter knowledge.
  • Meet all flex and evaluation requirements as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain and submit official records required by district policy and administrative procedures.
  • Abide by district policies regarding property and safety.
  • Report absences due to illness or personal necessity to the supervising administrator.
  • Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Fulfill all obligations under the current collective bargaining agreement.
