Overview
Are you a parent, teacher, or college student seeking seasonal summer employment? Redding Recreation is looking for Summer Coordinators! Primary responsibilities for this role include planning and organizing summer recreation programming for children ages 5-12 and supervising part-time Recreation staff as they implement your summer schedule of fun.
Good leadership skills and an understanding of child development are vital to this role, as you will be the mastermind behind the summer shenanigans and head honcho in charge of Summer Counselors. The 2026 Summer of Fun is yours to command!

Responsibilities Could Include- Plan and coordinate program activities; supervise program staff and/or volunteers; review applications for available positions; and evaluate and make recommendations regarding program and staff to Recreation Supervisor.
- Assist in the organization, implementation and supervision of special events, swim lessons, concessions, etc., or age-specific programs such as preschool programs.
- Assist in the organization, implementation and supervision of special events or programs, coordinate volunteer efforts of organizations involved in special events or programs, supervise registration, and communicate program development with Recreation Supervisor.
- Interpret recreation division policy, goals and programs for neighborhood groups and organizations.
- Assist in the organization, implementation and supervision of a community or neighborhood recreation center, including on-site staff supervision, inventory of materials and supplies, and communication of facility needs to supervisor.
- Manage the on-site operation of a city-owned recreation facility. Maintain staff schedules, provide necessary training, work effectively with participants, organize and supervise all activities and programs, maintain accurate records, and handle all emergency situations in compliance with City policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of recreation leadership techniques and specific program responsibilities
- Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques
- Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques used in marketing and public relations activities
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to promote and administer recreation activities
- Ability to understand written and oral instructions
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with participants, associates, and volunteers
- Ability to conduct recreation events
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple projects.
Special Requirements
- Typical experience would be equivalent to two years relevant program area and/or supervisory experience.
- Must possess valid First Aid and CPR certifications, and the same certifications required of employees supervised.
- Riverwalk Grille Coordinator must possess a Food Safety Handling certification.
