* * The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000.
The area is characterized by excellent schools with high graduation rates, low traffic, and low housing prices (Zillow average 395,000 vs. California state average of 786,000).

** DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
** The Chief of Campus Safety manages the District's Campus Safety Department to provide a safe and secure environment for staff and students. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision within a broad framework of policies and procedures, and hire, train, assign, schedule, supervise, and formally evaluate the work of others. Employees assigned to this classification are required to pass a background, psychological, and physical check in accordance with District standards.
This is an armed, non-sworn, administrative, and overtime exempt position.:
** CLASSIFICATION:
** Range 45 on the Administrative Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This a classified administrator position with a default CalPERS retirement.:

**** Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
**** Examples of typical duties are descriptive and not restrictive in nature.
* Essential Functions:
* * Serves as the District's primary Discipline Officer to address violations of the Standards of Student Conduct.
* Manages and directs the functions of the District's Department of Campus Safety; prepares department operating policies and procedures, which includes setting long-term goals and objectives; develops and implements campus safety related policies and procedures.
* Ensures a safe and secure environment for staff and students; ensures security of District properties and resources.
* Oversees District emergency management planning orders; develops training standards.
* Develops, manages, and directs implementation of District crime prevention strategies, emergency response strategies, and parking and safety activities.
* Identifies staffing needs within the Campus Safety Department and manages the screening, selection, and training of new employees.
* Oversees patrolling of District properties to deter potential violators.
* Directs response to alarms, emergency calls, and suspicious activities; makes arrests and takes other appropriate action as necessary.
