The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost-effectivebest practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care.
The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switchingmedications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribingprocesses in general practices, including promotion of repeat dispensing andonline ordering, minimising clinical risk, and aiming to reduce wastedmedicines.
The Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of the Primary Care Network (PCN) Pharmacist. We also offer dedicated support sessions from a GP within the practice.
You will be based in Bentley Medical Practice, Redcar, however there may be times when you are required to work across the local member practices of Redcar Coastal Primary Care Network.
We can be flexible with the hours for the role and are happy to consider any hours up to 37.5 per week with mutually convenient working days.

About usBentley Medical Practice is a GP Practice with a patient list size of 10,110 patients. We are situated in a modern purpose built building with free on-site parking for staff and visitors. We are a member practice of Redcar Coastal Primary Care Network.
Our friendly practice team consists of five GP's, two Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and a full administration and reception team.
Job responsibilitiesSupport therole of the Clinical Pharmacist at GP practice level on the delivery of the Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice model.
Support the Clinical Pharmacist in Structured Medication Reviews (SMR) i.e., organisenecessary monitoring tests prior to SMR
Undertakepatient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use,through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits.
Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within the GP practice and care homes. This will be achieved through undertaking clinical audits (e.g., use of antibiotics), utilising GP practice clinical systems toconduct such audits e.g., Systm One. Supporting quality improvement measures andcontributing to all appropriate elements of the delivery of the Directed Enhanced Service.
Carry out medicine'soptimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g., checkinginhaler technique), supporting medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
Where required, utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
Carry out housekeepingwhilst in patient records e.g., dose optimisation and medicines synchronisation.
Promotion of electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering.
Report on key performance indicators for CPGP to demonstrate added value for patients and general practice in accordance with NICE guidance.
Use and maintain information systems and databases relevant to the position includingincident reporting, medicines optimisation, prescribing data, cost savings and patient outcomes.
Work closely with the PCN Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice lead.
Participate in practice meetings, patient participation groups, and other meetings toimprove engagement of the role of pharmacy technician within the CPGP model andto promote issues relevant to prescribing and medicines optimisation.
Liaise withother pharmacy stakeholders e.g., ICB Medicines Optimisation team, community pharmacy, and hospital pharmacy teams.
Support the Medicines Optimisation team in the delivery of the Medicines Optimisation strategy.
Handlefunction specific information, which may be sensitive, complex, or confidentialand appropriately recording, transferring and/or coordinating such information in accordance with the Data Protection Act;
Caldicott Guidelines and the Confidentiality Code of Conduct.
